Chimney Repair

At some point during your home-ownership, your chimney will likely need some sort of repair. Chimney repair can range from very minor spot pointing, to full rebuilds, but what most people don’t know is, repairs can also be a combination of the two!
Why does this happen?
Weather and geographical location play a vital roll in how quickly a masonry chimney deteriorates. We live in an area that experiences many freeze-thaw cycles a year and it seems that lately, this is the new winter norm with warm days sprinkled into cold stretches. This reeks havoc on chimneys! The moisture trapped in the brick expands when it freezes and causes deterioration in brick, spalling, chipping, and/or cracks. The moisture that is released during the thaw cycle can then be reabsorbed and exacerbate conditions even more!

How long does a repair last?
Well, that depends on the type of repair and exposure to elements. complete grind and points average about 10 years where full rebuilds have been known to last 30+! Additionally, it’s always a great idea to complete any masonry repair with waterproofing. Our commercial grade waterproofing is a permeable water repellant, which prevents water from entering the masonry and can actually slow down the deterioration process.
